Sorry folks – the event described here has been cancelled due to the state’s stay-at-home order of March 20.
The Historic Liberty Theater and Molly’s Pint Brewpub in Murphysboro are excited to announce a special Social Distancing entertainment event this Saturday March 21 – a livestream of local musicians who had been booked for Molly’s 3rd Anniversary Party (now postponed). The Liberty Theater and Molly’s Pint share a deep love for our local artists, having hosted their performances for our respective audiences for years. With the restrictions currently in place against the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), these musicians are without venues to play (and be paid) for the foreseeable future. Thus the Liberty had started discussing the possibility of producing livestream concerts from our stage (sans audience) for local artists. When the State closed down all bars and restaurants this past weekend, Molly’s brewmaster Nick Blew also expressed his concern for the musicians booked for Molly’s in the coming weeks. Working together with Molly’s, our plan developed quickly – we would beta-test the Liberty’s idea with the performer line-up already in place at Molly’s. This is a difficult time for everyone – all the more so for small businesses (like Molly’s Pint), scrappy little non-profits (like the Liberty Theater), and most of all small mobile intelligent units (like our local musicians). This is the time for the Southern Illinoisan community to pull together, while maintaining that social distancing, to support each other – please watch the broadcast this Saturday – hopefully the first of many!
FAQs Where and when do I watch? Stay tuned as we finalize the arrangements – follow the event page on Facebook.
Who’s performing? Will the livestream cost money? There will be no charge to watch – however, we will ask for contributions, which will be split evenly among the Liberty Theater, Molly’s Pint, and the musicians.
I’m a local performer who loves this idea! I’m a person/business in the community who loves this idea! Our bar/restaurant is closed too, why didn’t we get to do a livestream with the Liberty? Serendipity – a Liberty board member happened to be talking to Nick Blew the night the state closure came down and found our concerns were in alignment. Assuming this event is successful, we would be happy to have other local establishments cosponsor livestreams going forward – please contact us through our Facebook page or by email at email@example.com if you are interested.
